Asapha delayed-release tablets_manufactured by faran shimi pharmaceutical company_ contain mesalamine, that also known as mesalazine or 5-aminosalicylic acid (5-ASA). mesalamine belongs to a group of medicines called anti-inflammatory, used to treat inflammation of the digestive tract. Asapha is supplied in 500mg delayed-release tablets (Enteric Coated) for oral administration. 10 tablets are packed in a blister and 6 blisters are packaged in one box with a leaflet.

Indications

What is Asapha tablet used for?

Asapha is used to treat an inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), such as ulcerative colitis (UC) and crohn disease in patients 5 years of age and older. It helps to reduce symptoms IBD such as diarrhea, rectal bleeding, and stomach pain.

Maintenance

How to store Asapha?

  • Store at 20° to 25°C (room temperature) and protect from moisture and light.
  • Keep out of the reach and sight of children.

Important Information

How to use Asapha?

• Administer with or without food. Do not crush, break, chew, or dissolve the tablets and Take with a full glass of water.
• For oral use only, do not administer rectally.
• Do not take antacids at the same time as this drug.
• You may see parts of this drug in your stool. If this happens a lot, talk with your doctor.
• To gain the most benefit, do not miss doses.

What other drugs could affect Asapha?

• Antacids, H2 blockers and Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPIs): Concomitant use May diminish the therapeutic effect of Asapha®.
• Heparin: concomitant use may enhance the adverse/toxic effect of Heparin.
• Varicella Virus-Containing Vaccines: concomitant use may enhance the adverse/toxic effect of Varicella Virus-Containing Vaccines.

Is Asapha safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding?

• Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan on getting pregnant. You will need to talk about the benefits and risks of using this drug while you are pregnant.
• Asapha® is present in breast milk, tell your doctor if you are breast-feeding. You will need to talk about any risks to your baby.

What to do if you miss a dose?

• Take a missed dose as soon as you think about it.
• If it’s close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your normal time.
• Do not take 2 doses at the same time or extra doses.

What to do if you overdose?

If you think there has been an overdose, call your doctor, pharmacist, or other health care provider right away.

Precautions and contraindications

Who should not use Asapha?

• Patients who are hypersensitive to mesalamine, aminosalicylates, salicylates, or any component of the formulation.
• Patients with Severe renal impairment and severe hepatic impairment.

Who should use with caution?

• Before you start taking Asapha®, be sure to tell your doctor if you have any of the following: Signs of an allergic reaction, liver or kidney problems, Signs of kidney problems like unable to pass urine, change in how much urine is passed, blood in the urine, or a big weight gain, Chest pain or pressure or a fast heartbeat, fever or chills, any unexplained bruising or bleeding.
• Talk to your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant.
• Talk to your doctor if you are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed.
• Use with caution in the elderly (patients >65 years of age).

Side Effects

What are some side effects of Asapha?

The most common adverse effects are including: headache, abdominal pain, eructation, constipation, nasopharyngitis.
