Methadone Hydrochloride Manufactured by Faran Shimi Pharmaceutical company is available in two dosage forms:
5,20,40 mg tablets & 10 of them are packed in a blister and 10 blisters are packed in one box & 25mg/5ml Solution packed in 250ml bottle.
Methadone is an opioid agonist indicated for the:
Drugs contain Methadone are not indicated as an as-needed (prn) analgesic.
• Take by mouth only
• Take with or without food. Take with food if it causes an upset stomach.
• Do not use for fast pain relief or on an as needed basis.
• Do not use for pain relief after surgery if you have not been taking drugs like this drug.
• Do not inject or snort this drug. Doing any of these things can cause very bad side effects like trouble breathing and death from overdose.
• To lower the chance of feeling dizzy or passing out, rise slowly if you have been sitting or lying down. Be careful going up and down stairs
• Titrate slowly with dose increases no more frequent than every 3 to 5 days
• Do not abruptly discontinue Methadone in a physically dependent patient.
Methadone may interact with other medications you are taking, So Tell your doctor about all the medicines you take, Especially about benzodiazepines or other drugs that may make you drowsy or slow your actions.
Benzodiazepines include drugs like alprazolam, diazepam, and lorazepam. Benzodiazepines may be used to treat many health problems like anxiety, trouble sleeping, or seizures. If you have questions, talk with your doctor.
Pregnant or plan to become pregnant:
If you take Methadone while pregnant, your baby may have symptoms of opioid withdrawal or respiratory depression at birth. Talk to your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant
Breastfeeding:
Methadone passes into breast milk and may harm your baby.
• Take a missed dose as soon as you think about it.
• If it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your normal time.
• Do not take 2 doses at the same time or extra doses
If you think there has been an overdose, call your poison control center or get medical care right away. Be ready to tell or show what was taken, how much, and when it happened.
Hypersensitivity (eg, anaphylaxis) to methadone or any component of the formulation; significant respiratory depression (in the absence of resuscitative equipment or in unmonitored settings); acute or severe
bronchial asthma (in the absence of resuscitative equipment or in an unmonitored setting); hypercarbia;
GI obstruction, including paralytic ileus (known or suspected)
• Talk to your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant.
• Talk to your doctor if you are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed.
• You should not drink alcohol while using Methadone, as this can lead to loss of consciousness or death.
All drugs may cause side effect. However, many people have no side effects or only have minor side effects. Call your doctor or pharmacist if any of these side effects or any other side effects bother you or do not go away:
• Signs of an allergic reaction, like rash; itching; red, swollen, blistered, or peeling skin with or without fever;
wheezing; tightness in the chest or throat; trouble breathing, swallowing, or talking; unusual hoarseness; or swelling of the mouth, face, lips, tongue, or throat.
• Signs of low potassium levels like muscle pain or weakness, muscle cramps, or a heartbeat that does not feel normal.
• Signs of low magnesium levels like mood changes, muscle pain or weakness, muscle cramps or spasms, seizures, shakiness, not hungry, very bad upset stomach or throwing up, or a heartbeat that does not feel normal.
• Very bad dizziness or passing out.
• Chest pain or pressure.
• Slow heartbeat.
• Noisy breathing.
• Breathing problems during sleep (sleep apnea).
• Feeling confused.
• Severe constipation or stomach pain. These may be signs of a severe bowel problem.
• Hallucinations (seeing or hearing things that are not there).
• Shortness of breath, a big weight gain, or swelling in the arms or legs.
• Trouble sleeping.
• Trouble passing urine.
• Any unexplained bruising or bleeding.
• Change in eyesight.
• A severe and sometimes deadly problem called serotonin syndrome may happen if you take this drug with certain other drugs. Call your doctor right away if you have agitation; change in balance; confusion; hallucinations; fever; fast or abnormal
heartbeat; flashing; muscle twitching or stiffness; seizures; shivering or shaking; sweating a lot; severe diarrhea, upset stomach, or throwing up; or severe headache.
• Feeling sleepy, tired, or weak
