Montelukast manufactured by Faran Shimi Pharmaceutical Company_ is available in 5mg chewable and 10mg coated tablets. 10 tablets are packed in a blister and 3 blisters are packaged in one box with a leaflet.
Use this drug as ordered by your doctor. Read all information given to you. Follow all instructions closely.
• Take with or without food.
• Keep taking this drug even when you are not having symptoms.
• If taking this drug to prevent breathing problems that happen with exercise, take at least 2 hours before exercise.
• If this drug is for asthma, take in the evening.
• Chewable tablets:
Chew well before swallowing.
• Coated tablets:
Swallow whole, don’t chew, break, or crush.
Skip the missed dose and go back to your normal time.
• Do not take 2 doses at the same time or extra doses.
If you think there has been an overdose, call your doctor, pharmacist, or other health care provider right away.
Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, plan on getting pregnant, or are breast-feeding. You will need to talk about the benefits and risks to you and the baby
Hypersensitivity to montelukast or any component of the formulation
Serious neuropsychiatric (NP) events: have been reported with the use of montelukast. If changes in behavior are observed, or if new NP symptoms or suicidal thoughts and/or behavior occur, advise patients to discontinue montelukast and contact a health care provider immediately.
Acute asthma/bronchospasm: Montelukast is not FDA approved for use in the reversal of bronchospasm in acute asthma attacks, including status asthmaticus.
Chewable tablet(5mg): Contains phenylalanine. Avoid use in phenylketonuria
Eosinophilia and vasculitis: In rare cases, patients may present with systemic eosinophilia, sometimes presenting with clinical features of vasculitis consistent with eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (formerly known as Churg-Strauss); these clinical features may include eosinophilia, vasculitis rash, worsening pulmonary symptoms, cardiac complications, and/or neuropathy. A causal association between montelukast and these underlying conditions has not been established.
All drugs may cause side effects. However, many people have no side effects or only have minor side effects. Call your doctor or get medical help if any of these side effects or any other side effects bother you or do not go away:
• Increased ALT, AST
• Fever
• headache
• Dizziness
• Fatigue
• Otitis
• rhinitis
