Rifaxilan _Manufactured by Faran Shimi Pharmaceutical Company_ is a derivative of the antibiotic rifamycin with minimal gastrointestinal absorption and broad-spectrum antibacterial activity covering both gram-positive and gram-negative organisms with limited cross-resistance. Beyond its antibacterial activity, such as alteration of virulence, prevention of gut mucosal adherence and bacterial translocation, rifaximin exerts some anti-inflammatory effects with only a minimal effect on the overall composition of the gut microbiota.
Rifaxilan is available in 200 and 550mg film coated tablets. The tablets are packaged in one box with a leaflet.
