What is Methadone Hydrochloride?
Methadone Hydrochloride _Manufactured by Faran Shimi Pharmaceutical Company_ is available in two dosage forms:
*Tablet (5, 20 and 40mg): 10 tablets are packed in a blister and 10 blisters are packaged in one box with a leaflet.
*Oral Solution (25mg/5ml): each 250ml bottle is packaged in one box with a leaflet.


What is Methadone used for?
It is used to ease very bad pain (only to be used when continuous care is needed for a long time).
It is used to treat addiction problems.

Important Information

How to use Methadone?
Take by mouth only.
Use this drug as ordered by your doctor. Follow all instructions closely.
Take with or without food. Take with food if it causes an upset stomach.
Take this drug at the same time of day.
Do not use for pain relief after surgery if you have not been taking drugs like this drug.
What other drugs could affect Methadone?
Talk to your doctor if you are taking any of these drugs:
Certain drugs for depression or Parkinson’s disease in the last 14 days.
Linezolid or methylene blue.
Buprenorphine, Butorphanol, Nalbuphine, Pentazocine.
Be especially careful about taking benzodiazepines or other drugs that may make you drowsy or slow your actions.
Is Methadone safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding?
This drug passes into breast milk and may harm your baby. Talk to your doctor if you are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed.
This drug may cause harm to the unborn baby if you take it while you are pregnant. If you are pregnant or you get pregnant while taking this drug, call your doctor.
What to do if you miss a dose?
If you miss a dose of methadone, take your medicine when you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take the next dose at your regular time. Do not take 2 doses at the same time unless your doctor tells you to.
What to do if you overdose?
Misuse or abuse of this drug can lead to overdose. If you think there has been an overdose, call your doctor, pharmacist, or other health care provider right away.

Contraindications & Cautions

Who should not use Methadone?
Do not use if you are allergic to methadone or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
Who should use with caution?
Before taking methadone, tell your doctor if you have a/an: Lung or breathing problems like asthma, trouble breathing or sleep apnea, stomach or bowel block, high levels of carbon dioxide in the blood.
Avoid driving and doing other tasks or actions that call for you to be alert until you see how this drug affects you.
To lower the chance of feeling dizzy or passing out, rise slowly if you have been sitting or lying down. Be careful going up and down stairs.
You should not drink alcohol while using methadone.
This drug may affect certain lab tests. Tell your health care providers and lab workers that you take this drug.
Talk to your doctor before you lower the dose or stop this drug. Tell your doctor if you have more pain, mood changes, thoughts of suicide, or any of other bad effects.
Long-term use of an opioid drug may lead to lower sex hormone levels. Call your doctor if you have a lowered interest in sex, fertility problems, no menstrual period, or change in sex ability.
If you are 65 or older, use this drug with care.

Side Effects

What are some side effects of Methadone?
All drugs may cause side effect. However, many people have no side effects or only have minor side effects. Call your doctor or pharmacist if any of these side effects or any other side effects bother you or do not go away.
-Side effects require medical attention as soon as possible:
Allergic reactions (rash, hives, swelling of the face, wheezing, tightness in the chest, trouble breathing).
Signs of low potassium levels like muscle pain or weakness, muscle cramps.
Signs of low magnesium levels like mood changes, muscle pain or weakness, muscle cramps or spasms, seizures, shakiness, not hungry, very bad upset stomach or throwing up.
Very bad dizziness or passing out.
Chest pain or pressure.
Slow heartbeat.
Feeling very tired or weak.
Hallucinations (seeing or hearing things that are not there).
Mood changes.
Very bad headache.
Weight gain, or swelling in the arms or legs.
Trouble passing urine.
Any unexplained bruising or bleeding.
Change in eyesight.
-Side effects require medical attention if it persists or worsens:
Feeling dizzy, sleepy, tired, constipation, stomach pain, upset stomach or throwing up.


How to store Methadone?
Store at room temperature and keep away from light and moisture.
Keep out of the reach and sight of children.
